Memes Are One Way to Cope Through the Market Crash – Here Are a Few

Some people seek therapy to cope with difficult times. Others make sense of their experiences through meditation. Bitcoiners, as most young people spending too much time on the internet, turn to memes.

Most cryptocurrencies are looking bearish at the moment, but the number one, Bitcoin, is as usual, taking the biggest blows. At the moment BTC is trading close to $34,000, after a heavy volatility over 24 hours, and beyond. April, when the price reached an all-time high of $63,498, now seems like forever ago.

Market ups and market downs usually get the meme action going. While market ups tend to focus on making fun of those who missed the train or otherwise were negative about cryptos when prices were down, the market downs on the other hand focus on lifting up the spirits through humor and self-irony.

The memes getting the biggest attention subtly take a poke at service economy employees, many of whom toil 40 hours a week on minimum wage with few benefits:

Ryan Watkins a research analyst for Messari Crypto, posted a funny meme showing MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor, who led the cloud software company to buy $2.7 billion in Bitcoin in one year, wearing a McDonald’s hat and shirt – still advocating bitcoin – while the customer just would like to place an order.

Another imagined that McDonald’s itself took part in the McRibbing and shared job applications with crypto holders:

Not everything is making fun of people who contribute to the fiat economy. Bitcoiners can be very good at self-irony. Here’s comparing a bitcoin investor to Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. Both had a good run.

Here’s another using comedian Kevin Hart’s 5’2″ stature to point out that Bitcoin’s price is slightly ‘short’ compared to previous months:

Some of the best memes are about “the dip.” As any long-term crypto investor will tell you, you have to “buy the dip.” The problem these memes illustrate, that it’s hard to know when the price has reached the bottom!

So it’s all good. If crypto holding doesn’t work out, the memers can always apply for the meme artist position. For the rest of us… McDonald’s is always hiring.
