Visa Brings Face Payments And Digital Cards To World Cup
Visa will use the 2018 Fifa World Cup to demonstrate some of its latest technologies, such as face payments and instantly-issued prepaid cards featuring animated artwork.
Visa, Fifa’s official payment technology partner, hopes to make a mark during the contentious event, which begins on Sunday in Qatar.
Visa has placed 5,300 contactless-enabled payment terminals at official sites in anticipation of more than a million spectators attending the event.
Additionally, it collaborates with Qatar National Bank and POP ID to enable clients to validate their payments using their faces at a certain number of coffee shops.
In Doha, certain cardholders can scan a QR code to get an immediate digital prepaid card featuring animated artwork of the tournament’s mascot, La’eeb.
Visa is also collaborating with local banks to assist SMBs in accepting contactless payments through NFC-enabled Android handsets and is implementing tap-to-pay in cabs.
