The Polish Government Is Cracking Down On PayPal

The competition watchdog in Poland has opened a case against PayPal for the use of potentially illegal contractual clauses.

If the UOKiK regulator determines that there are issues with the user agreement of the payment industry giant, PayPal, it might fine the company up to 10% of its annual revenue.

The watchdog objects to three clauses in the agreement: a prohibition on using an account while it is blocked or suspended, a list of sanctions, and a list of prohibited acts.

Says a statement: “In the opinion of the President of the Office, the content contained in this document may be contrary to good practises and lead to gross disproportion of rights and obligations between the consumer and the entrepreneur.”

According to UOKiK, forbidden acts have been “imprecisely” specified.

PayPal says it “remains deeply committed to its compliance obligations” and collaborates closely with authorities in a statement provided to Reuters.
