N26 CFO Jan Kemper Resigns

After a year and a half, Kemper will quit the mobile bank to concentrate on other projects.

This month, N26’s leadership team has seen a slight change due to the departure of the company’s chief financial officer (CFO) and temporary chief operating officer (COO).

With immediate effect, co-founder and co-CEO Maximilian Tayenthal will assume the position of COO in place of Jan Kemper, who joined the German mobile bank a year and a half ago and is departing to focus on other endeavours.

When Kemper arrived from Zalando, Tayenthal was elevated to co-CEO and then lost his position as CFO.

The implication was that Kemper was recruited on board to support N26 through its IPO because of his vast expertise in growing businesses from inception to IPO, albeit this has yet to occur.

“Jan has been instrumental in helping to further strengthen the structures and governance of N26, thus putting in place a solid foundation for the company’s continued success,” N26 chairman of the supervisory board Marcus Mosen said.

N26 reports that although the search for a new CFO is ongoing, Kemper will go at the end of January but will continue collaborating with the team to achieve a “smooth transition.”

After giving his personal and professional future some thought, Kemper said he decided to “recalibrate” his objectives, emphasising his board positions, enterprises, and teaching at RWTH Aachen.

“N26 is a great company with a strong business model and huge potential for continued growth, especially in the current macro environment. The teams I have had the pleasure of working with are undoubtedly among the best in the industry,” Kemper wrote on LinkedIn.
