After the U.S. And Canada, Australia Has The 3rd Most Crypto ATMs

With 234 crypto ATMs, Australia is now the third country in the world after the United States and Canada.

Even though the market is down and there are a record-low number of new Bitcoin ATMs installed worldwide, Australia has more crypto ATMs than any other country. In the first few days of January, Australia rose to fourth place. Since then, they’ve added 16 more machines.

Based on data from Coinatmradar, Australia now has 234 crypto ATMs, which makes it the third country in the world after the U.S. and Canada. It did better in three weeks than Spain, which has 222 crypto ATMs.

It’s all about how things change over time. Australia put up 99 crypto ATMs, almost half its total, in the last three months of 2022. It never slows down. Since January 1, Australia has added 16 new ATMs, while Spain has lost four, and El Salvador, the fifth in the world, has yet to add a single one.

Overall, the number of crypto ATMs in Australia, Spain, and El Salvador couldn’t come close to the massive number in the U.S. There are 33,387, or 86.9%, of the world’s machines in the United States. At the time of writing, they have a stunning 94.4% of all the crypto ATMs, along with Canada (2,556).

A year-long bear market, geopolitical tensions, and global inflation slowed the installation of crypto ATMs by a considerable amount in 2022. Between July and the end of 2022, only 94 Bitcoin ATMs were added to the global network. This is a big difference from the first half of 2022 when 4,169 ATMs were added.

In January 2023, the first Bitcoin ATM with built-in Lightning Network capabilities opened in the Australian city of Coolangatta. It works the same way as traditional crypto ATMs, but the layer-2 Lightning solution saves time. And also lets people buy BTC in minimal amounts.
