Tap to Pay Is Coming To Android Through Stripe

Millions of businesses in the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore can use contactless payments hardware.
Stripe is adding support for Android to its “Tap to Pay” service.
Last year, the payment giants became Apple’s first payment partner. This means that any iOS device can now be used as a terminal to make or take payments.
Now, the fintech is making Tap to Pay available to anyone with an Android device that has NFC. This is a huge step forward for the company.
“Stripe’s launch of Tap to Pay on Android puts contactless payments hardware into the pockets of millions of businesses around the world,” Stripe Terminal business lead John Affaki said.
“Now any business can set up in-person checkout in minutes.”
Tap to Pay is a feature of Stripe Terminal that lets businesses accept payments without having to use a separate card reader.
Instead, businesses can use any Android device that works with Stripe to turn it into a contactless mobile card reader.
It is now live in six markets: the UK, the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore. Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and mobile payments like Google Pay can be used to pay for things.
“Contactless payments are increasingly becoming the norm, therefore it’s crucial that businesses of all sizes are able to accept this form of payment,” Google Payments director of product management Dong Min Kim said.
“Android devices already connect billions of people globally, and by teaming up with Stripe to support Tap to Pay, we are providing businesses who have Android devices an easy and cost-effective way to accept contactless payments from their customers.”
