Alibaba Introduce Open-sourced AI Model To Encounter Meta’s Llama 2 

Alibaba, Chinese giant announced two open-source AI models on Thursday in a bid to encounter Meta platforms. 

The Hangzhou based firm stated that it had two open-sourced large language models (LLM), a sort of AI model, called Qwen-7B and Qwen-7B-Chat on August 3 in a press release.  

Each model has 7 billion parameters, which is generally utilized to compute its strength. This impression the first time a Chinese giant tech firm has open sourced its LLM.  

It also entered market after Meta revealed a related open-sourced mode; called Llama 2 previous month, a step that has concentrated widespread interest. Some experts stated that open-source models can diminish the present market domination enjoyed by OpenAI, the designer of ChatGPT, and Google, whose AI models charge fees from the users. 

Alibaba Cloud reported its LLM named Tongyi Qianwen in April, which has several versions featuring different numbers of parameters. Alibaba stated that Qwen-7B and Qwen-7B-Chat are two small sized versions of Tongyi Qianwen, purpose to assist small and medium sized businesses to start using AI. 

The two models code, model weights, and documentation would be freely approachable to academics, researchers and commercial institutions across the world, the firm disclosed.
