Amazon Palm Payments To 500+ Whole Food Market Stores

Amazon is putting its palm payment system in all of its more than 500 Whole Foods Market stores in the US.

Amazon One is currently offered at more than 200 Whole Foods Market stores across the US. First-time users can sign up online in less than a minute with a credit or bank card, Amazon account, and cell phone number. Then, when they go to a store that is part of Amazon One, they can quickly sign up by putting their hand over an Amazon One device and scanning it.

Leandro Balbinot, chief technology officer at Whole Foods Market, says: “Since we’ve introduced Amazon One at Whole Foods Market stores over the past two years, we’ve seen that customers love the convenience it provides, and we’re excited to bring Amazon One to all of our customers across the US.”

Amazon has put the technology in place at 400 sites across the US, where it is used by 3 million people.

Amazon added age verification to its palm reading technology in May. This means that shoppers who are old enough can now buy alcohol with a wave of the hand instead of digging through their pockets for ID. Along with payments, the technology is also used to verify people’s identities. This lets customers link and use their loyalty programs and gives them safe entry to sports and entertainment venues and office buildings.
