Do Kwon Gets 4 Months In Jail In Montenegro For Using A Fake Passport

After being found guilty of using a fake Costa Rican passport, the founder of Terraform Labs was given a four-month jail term.

A court in Montenegro found that the founder of Terraform Labs, Do Kwon, used a fake passport and gave him a four-month prison term.

Han Chong-joon, who used to work with Kwon at Terraform Labs as the chief financial officer, was also charged and given the same term. The Montenegro Basic Court said on its website that the time both men spent in jail will be taken into account.

Kwon was accused of trying to leave the country with a fake passport from Costa Rica. He is said to have told a court in Montenegro that he didn’t know the visa he was traveling with was a fake. Instead, he blamed a Chinese agency.

South Korean news source Segye Ilbo reported on June 17 that Kwon told the Montenegro Basic Court that he got his allegedly fake passports and travel documents, such as a Costa Rican passport, from third-party “agencies.”

Kwon said that he had no reason to question that his Costa Rican passport was real because he had been traveling with it for “years.”

Along with denying that he forged travel documents, Kwon also denied that he gave money to Montenegro’s previous finance minister Milojko Spaji, who is now the leader of the Europe Now party.
