Ex-Meta Vice President Is Now Stripe’s Sales Chief

After six years at Meta, Vivek Sharma will lead a completely new revenue and financial management team at Stripe.

Stripe has hired a new head of sales and finance management in Vivek Sharma, one of Meta’s previous vice presidents.

Sharma left his position as vice president of the virtual reality social network Horizon Worlds at Meta a few months ago and is now a member of Stripe’s new product team.

He posted on LinkedIn that he is cooperating with the new team to build tools that would assist companies in managing, tracking, and analysing their income.

Sharma remarked, “I could not be joining at a better time.”

“There’s been huge creativity in online business models over the last decade. Retailers are becoming marketplaces and platforms, marketplaces are becoming retailers, fintech and the creator economy are (sic) everywhere…

“But financial systems haven’t kept up. Businesses are still constrained by the basics: how do we bill our users and/or support new billing models? How do we track all of these financial assets and obligations sloshing around in the cloud? And how do we do this compliantly in markets around the world?”

Sharma will oversee the revenue and financial management team to handle these issues after spending six years at Meta, where he initially oversaw the development of Facebook Marketplace to more than 700 million users and then constructed the metaverse’s social network.

He resigned from his position in August and was replaced by Vishal Shah after criticism of Horizon Worlds’ graphics quality.

In his new job at Stripe, Sharma will transition from the metaverse to actual companies and assist their growth.

Sharma wrote, “We’re helping businesses earn more money in more ways—vital in the current slowdown—and make accounting, tax and analytics a tonne easier so they can manage that revenue for a lot less effort.”

“Getting this right could be a big driver of economic opportunity for businesses around the world,” he decided to add.
