Messi’s ‘Welcome Package’ From PSG Includes A Payment In Crypto Fan Token

Argentinian Football star Lionel Messi’s transfer from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) has made headlines globally this week, and sent PSG fan token price up.
Reuters reported that the football star’s transfer included a payment in cryptocurrency fan tokens as part of the player’s “welcome package.”
The amount of the payment was not disclosed, but nevertheless, it is a big moment in the evolution of digital assets and sport.
Crypto Fan Tokens?
Crypto fan tokens are similar to other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, but typically these are issued by sports teams of franchises.
PSG’s fan token (PSG), was launched in partnership with Socios in January last year. The token serves as a means for fans to interact with the club and participate in interactive online polls.
When it was launched, it allowed fans to choose an inspirational captain’s armband message.
PSG Fan Token Price
Messi’s groundbreaking transfer to PSG has sent the fan token up. In a weekly chart PSG has gained 84% according to Coingecko.
Just last week, PSG token was valued at close to $22. On August 10, the day Messi’s deal was officially announced, the token’s value soared to $58, almost tripled its value from the week before.
PSG coin is currently trading at $41.50.
