Samsung Is Exploring NFT Functions In Its Latest Smart TV Models

Samsung Electronics announced Monday that its new smart TVs will allow users to purchase non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The electronics giant unveiled ahead of Consumer Electronics Show 2022 its newest MICRO LED, Neo QLED and Lifestyle TV models, which are set to launch sometime this year, will support NFTs.
A corresponding statement from Samsung regarding the news stated:
“With demand for NFTs on the rise, the need for a solution to today’s fragmented viewing and purchasing landscape has never been greater,” the company said in a press release. “In 2022, Samsung is introducing the world’s first TV screen-based NFT explorer and marketplace aggregator, a groundbreaking platform that lets you browse, purchase, and display your favorite art — all in one place.”
Simon Sung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Sales & Marketing Team of the Visual Display Business at Samsung commented:
“The role of the screen has changed dramatically in recent years with advancements in technology and how entertainment is distributed. With our new lineup of products, we are providing customers an entirely immersive video and audio experience that is customizable to their needs.
Whether you are a movie buff, TV lover, gamer or even an art enthusiast, Samsung has leading-edge offerings that can enhance any room.”
Samsung is not new to the NFT space. The South Korean tech giant’s venture unit, Samsung Next, is an investor in several NFT startups. These include Sky Mavis (Axie Infinity creator), Dapper Labs, Forte, Nifty’s, The Sandbox, and SuperRare.
Samsung’s latest announcement comes amid the already ongoing push for adoption of NFTs made by some other mainstream companies. Just recently, sporting goods giant Nike announced the acquisition of RTFKT Studios, “a leading brand that leverages cutting edge innovation to deliver next-generation collectibles that merge culture and gaming.”
