Start-up In Belgium Enables Crypto Payments for Parking

Since Thursday, 2 September 2022, it has been possible to pay for parking sessions in Antwerp and Brussels with crypto coins.

A Belgian digital parking start-up, Seety, offers the option of paying with seven different cryptocurrencies in addition to the traditional methods, including bitcoin and ethereum.

Seety, part of start-up accelerator Start it @ KBC, expects cryptocurrencies to become more environmentally friendly in due course, meaning they will increasingly be used to pay for everyday goods and services.

If you want to use crypto coins to pay for a parking space via Seety, you can buy Seety credits via the app. Currently there is a choice between bitcoin, ethereum, bitcoin cash, litecoin, dai, dogecoin and USD coin.

The transaction costs are the same as for a payment by credit card or Bancontact.

With Seety, users can find the cheapest parking zones, avoid parking fines and pay for their parking in two clicks.

The company also recently introduced its app in more than a hundred Dutch cities and municipalities.

Seety has 355,000 active members and expects a turnover of 400,000 euros in 2021. For 2022, the start-up aims for a turnover of 2 million euros.

The app is available for iOS and Android.

These days, crypto payment options for micro-transactions are becoming increasingly popular even though significant hurdles still stand in the way of more broad-based adoption.

Crypto credit cards and stablecoins are also helping to simplify the process of spending cryptos while making it easier for merchants to onboard cryptocurrency payment options on their platforms.

Visa recently reported that its crypto-enabled cards had processed over $1 billion in crypto spending in the first half of 2021.
