The New CEO Of YouTube Is A Web3-Friendly Executive

YouTube’s new CEO Neal Mohan said NFTs might help content providers generate more cash.
Since Susan Wojcicki left YouTube this week, Google-owned YouTube named Web3-friendly Neal Mohan CEO.
After nine years at YouTube, Wojcicki announced her departure on Feb. 16 to focus on family, health, and personal interests. She introduced the revenue-sharing approach, among other things.
She will remain an Alphabet Inc. advisor.
Mohan was YouTube’s chief product officer before becoming CEO, overseeing the contentious removal of the video dislike button, the launch of YouTube Shorts to compete with Tik Tok, and YouTube Music.
In February 2022, Mohan proposed adding Metaverse-based content experiences and content tokenization using nonfungible tokens (NFTs) to Web3, much to the dismay of NFT-haters.
Mohan stressed that NFTs might help creators interact with consumers and generate new revenue. Creators may tokenize their movies, images, art, and experiences.
“Web3 also opens up new opportunities for creators. We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans. Together, they’ll be able to collaborate on new projects and make money in ways not previously possible,” he wrote in a blog post on Feb. 10, 2022.
As Mohan is now CEO, Web 3-related plans may be revived.
Twitter’s furious NFT doubters have been unusually quiet over Mohan’s appointment as YouTube’s CEO.
