Two Other U.S. Mayors Join Miami Mayor To Take Salary In Bitcoin

The Mayor of City of Miami Francis Suarez sparked a trend earlier this week, saying that he will take his entire next salary in Bitcoin. Mayor-elect of New York Eric Adams, and Mayor of Jackson Scott Conger were quick to follow the example.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez earlier this week tweeted that he will be taking his entire salary in bitcoin. Something he also confirmed in an interview with FOX Business. Suarez explained that he wants to provide the option for city employees to receive their salaries in BTC, partly or in full, but it won’t be imposed on anyone.
Suarez wants allow all city employees to be paid in bitcoin, but making it completely optional: “We want our employees to have that option but it’s certainly not going to be something that we’re going to force on them.”
The mayor said he understands that “a decision like that is a personal decision.” Still, he wants his city to be at the forefront of technological advancements in the U.S. and “send a message to the world that we are going to be one of the most innovative governments and innovative cities on the planet.”
Suarez explained his decision:
“When governments are spending that kind of money that they are, when you have inflation at the point that it is, when you have rampant overspending in government and deficit spending, all of that pushes in favor of an increase in the price of Bitcoin. So I feel very comfortable getting my entire salary in bitcoin.”
New York City Mayor-Elect Was Quick To Follow
In response to Suarez’s move, New York City Mayor-Elect Eric Adams, replied to Suarez’s tweet saying he would take not one but three paychecks in bitcoin.
“In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first THREE paychecks in Bitcoin when I become mayor,” Eric Adams tweeted. “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!”
Adams was recently elected as the next mayor of New York City after a candidate run marked by enthusiasm and promises around Bitcoin. The mayor-elect told Bloomberg yesterday that he will “look at what’s preventing the growth of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city.”
Mayor Conger Of Jackson Also Announce Converting His Salary To Bitcoin
The mayor of Jackson, Tennessee, Scott Conger who has long been an advocate of crypto adoption, also tweeted his enthusiasm for receiving his salary in Bitcoin. However, as the state laws as of yet do not allow him to receive it directly in Bitcoin, he vowed to immediately convert his salary to Bitcoin.
