Walmart / Litecoin Payment Announcement Is Fake

Litecoin saw a 20% spike and withdrawal following a fake press release sent out by GlobeNewswire that referenced a partnership with Walmart.

A Walmart spokesperson confirmed the press release is not authentic.

A number of media organizations including Reuters and CNBC sent headlines on the announcement.

The announcement referenced a non-working website in the email of one of the contacts listed, which raised suspicions.

According to the fake release Walmart, the biggest retailer in the U.S., would accept cryptocurrency for payments from shoppers, utilizing litecoin.

The announcement also appeared on Litecoin’s official Twitter, before it was taken down.
