MetaMask Drops Wyre From Aggregators Amid Closure Rumors

Last year, San Francisco-based e-commerce firm Bolt was planning to purchase Wyre for $1.5 billion, but the deal was ultimately abandoned.

Wyre’s crypto payment network is no longer supported by the cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask, according to rumours that Wyre will shortly cease operations.

On January 5, MetaMask said on Twitter that Wyre had been removed from their mobile aggregator, enabling users to buy cryptocurrency straight through its digital wallet.

Users were urged not to use Wyre on the mobile aggregator by MetaMask, who added they are working on extension removal and appreciate your patience.

The notice states that MetaMask supports many other payment gateways, including Transak, MoonPay, and Sardine. According to MetaMask, the services are accessible through Apple Pay, bank cards, and transfers.

The information was released shortly after Wyre CEO Ioannis Giannaros allegedly informed staff members that the company would soon cease operations.

“We’ll continue to do everything we can, but I want everyone to brace themselves for the fact that we will need to unwind the business over the next couple of weeks,” Giannaros reportedly stated

Wyre, a significant cryptocurrency payment company, was established in San Francisco in 2013 and nearly sold for $1.5 billion last year. The American e-commerce firm Bolt decided to buy Wyre in April 2022. Bolt ultimately cancelled the agreement in September 2022 amid the severe crypto bear market that year.
