Xiaomi Files Patent That Allows Genetic Reproduction Of Virtual Characters

Technology developer Xiaomi has applied for a patent that uses blockchain technology to facilitate the production of original digital characters.

The patent titled “Virtual Character Processing Method, Device and Storage Medium” was introduced in January 2022 but has recently been disclosed by the Chinese company.

Due to the decentralized nature of blockchain, it allows many businesses to design their new products on the chain. According to the disclosure of patents, “It is possible to create virtual characters with different images based on their genes.”

Xiaomi, known for its mobile phones and other electronic devices, has made public a patent application describing the company’s use of blockchain technology in the process of creating a virtual character.

“The combination of technology uses blockchain technology to store the virtual character’s data to ensure that the virtual character is unique, and cannot be simulated and destructible using the blockchain transparency feature.”

Xiaomi could use the technology in Metaverse

There are even rumors that Xiaomi may be developing its own metaverse platform with these virtual characters as the main draw. However, none of these rumors have been confirmed.

According to the application, Xiaomi’s characters will use blockchain to determine gene sequencing, which protects the unique combination. Although the patent does not explicitly refer to NFT as it only describes the use of blockchain.

However, this is not the first time Xiaomi has entered the world of digital currency and blockchain. In 2018 it launched its first NFT collection, Crypto Rabbits.
