Ukraine Pulls Back From Airdrop, Announce To Issue NFTs Instead

Ukraine is backing down from its earlier plans to do an airdrop to addresses who donated for its cause. Instead, the country will be issuing non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s minister for digital transformation tweeted:

“After careful consideration we decided to cancel airdrop. Instead, we will announce NFTs to support Ukrainian Armed Forces soon. We DO NOT HAVE any plans to issue any fungible tokens.”

Ukraine’s fundraising attempts were targeted by scammers who issued a fake token designed to look like official. After some news sites reported that the fake token was official, it gathered significant trading volume on decentralized exchanges.

However, there were multiple red flags that hinted that it was likely fake, including the way the token was made to look like it was issued from Ukraine’s public Ethereum address, but in reality it was issued by a third party.

While the airdrop is now canceled, it was successful in its marketing efforts to attract further donations. which spiked in anticipation of a future token, with millions of dollars worth flowing in.
