Affirm and Booking.com Partner to Enhance Travel Payment Choices

Booking Holdings Brands Collaborate on AI Deployment

In a groundbreaking move, the payment network giant Affirm has recently announced a strategic partnership with Booking.com, one of the world’s leading online travel platforms. This alliance aims to transform how travellers make their bookings by offering enhanced and flexible payment options.

Affirm’s collaboration with Booking.com extends its reach across several Booking Holdings travel brands, including KAYAK, Agoda, and Priceline. This partnership is a significant step towards providing travellers and customers more freedom and convenience when making travel-related payments.

One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the introduction of personalized payment plans for Booking.com clients. When customers select Affirm at the checkout, they can tailor a payment plan that aligns with their budget. They can choose between monthly or bi-weekly payments, allowing them to pay for their travel over time. Importantly, this payment plan ensures that customers will never pay more than they agreed upon when booking, giving them peace of mind and financial security.

Wayne Pommen, Affirm’s Chief Revenue Officer, explained the rationale behind this partnership, stating, “Our business shows that consumers are increasingly booking travel with more flexible payment options, as Affirm’s travel and ticketing purchase volume grew nearly 50% year-over-year during the quarter ending June 30.” He added that expanding their relationship with Booking Holdings would enable them to provide Booking.com customers with increased access to responsible credit. Affirm prides itself on approving purchases that it believes can and will be repaid, ensuring a responsible approach to credit.

This collaboration isn’t just about offering travellers more flexibility; it’s also a strategic move to benefit merchants. By integrating Affirm at the checkout, merchants can expect increased sales, higher average order values, and improved conversion rates. Additionally, this partnership will help these merchants reach new customers globally, tapping into Booking.com’s extensive user base.

Booking.com will also join Affirm’s impressive network of over 254,000 merchants, which includes notable names such as American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, CheapOair, and Vacasa. This network offers consumers various options to use Affirm’s payment solutions in multiple industries, from retail to travel.

Affirm’s success doesn’t end with its partnership with Booking.com. Over the past few months, this US-based financial technology company has been actively pursuing strategic collaborations, expanding its reach globally. In July 2023, Affirm partnered with Cathay Pacific, a Hong Kong-based global airline, to serve as its exclusive US pay-over-time collaborator. This collaboration allowed travelers to pay for flights through simple and secure monthly or bi-weekly payments, with no hidden or late fees.

Similarly, in June 2023, Amazon announced that US traders and merchants offering Amazon Pay could integrate Affirm’s Adaptive Checkout as a payment method. This move aimed to enhance the payment experience for customers, driving higher sales and increasing customer loyalty.

Affirm’s partnership with Booking.com marks a significant milestone in travel payments. Travellers can now enjoy greater flexibility and financial control when planning their trips, while merchants can expect sales and customer loyalty improvements. This collaboration reinforces Affirm’s commitment to delivering honest financial products that improve lives and its mission to empower consumers and businesses.

In an era where flexibility and convenience are paramount, Affirm’s innovative payment solutions are poised to impact the travel industry, allowing travellers to explore the world while staying within their budgets. With Affirm, the future of travel payments is looking brighter than ever.
