Iranian Security Forces Arrest Bitcoin Advocate Ziya Sadr

Iranian proponent of Bitcoin Ziya Sadr was detained by security agents last month, according to a number of sources.

According to Nima Yazdanmehr, a friend of Sadr, Sadr was detained on the streets of Tehran on September 19 and is still being held. The arrest happened in the midst of significant anti-government demonstrations after the state-sanctioned murder of Mahsa Amini, 22.

Sadr is a well-known Bitcoin evangelist and YouTuber who also teaches about the currency. He has encouraged methods to utilise Bitcoin for private transactions and translated Bitcoin literature into Farsi.

According to Yazdanmehr, Sadr is now detained at Fashafouyeh Prison and keeps in touch with his loved ones and close pals.

In the weeks after the demonstrations, the Iranian regime jailed hundreds of Iranian individuals and activists, including Sadr. It is unknown if Sadr’s support for Bitcoin has anything to do with the Iranian government’s interest in him.

According to CoinDesk sources, Sadr was not taking part in a demonstration when he was taken into custody.

According to Yazdanmerh, bail petitions throughout Iran have been delayed as a result of the protest-related mass arrests that were supposed to free Sadr on bond on Sunday.

According to Yazdanmerh, Sadr’s Twitter account was just cancelled.
